To serve and improve the quality of life for those in Milwaukee's 13th Aldermanic District.
WHO WE ARE
The Garden District Neighborhood Association (GDNA) is a volunteer-powered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our volunteer group's purpose is to bring the community together in order to:
• Maintain and improve the area
• Promote and facilitate fun activities
• Develop community connections and financial stability
GDNA serves Milwaukee's 13th Aldermanic District — home to the Garden District Community Garden at 6th & Norwich, Polonia Peace Park, and neighborhoods including Town of Lake, Tippecanoe, Saveland Park, and Airport Gardens.
WHAT WE DO
• Community events — Ghostly Garden Walk, Movies in the Garden, tree lighting, Wonderland light display, rummage sales, craft fairs, and garden workdays
• Community garden — rental plots and volunteer garden groups at the Garden District Community Garden
• Neighborhood history — the GDNA Historical Committee documents the places and people of the Garden District
• Neighborhood pride — beautification, green infrastructure, and the Green Corridor along S. 6th Street
OUR HISTORY
The Garden District story starts with neighbors. In 2008, Alderman Terry Witkowski passed legislation officially designating the 13th Aldermanic District as Milwaukee's Garden District. Volunteers — including Bryan Simon of Simon Landscaping, who donated hundreds of hours — transformed the overgrown, vacant land at 6th and Howard into the community hub and green technology showcase we enjoy today: garden beds, a farmers market, permeable pavement, a recycled rainwater stream, a gazebo, and the Wonderland light display.
THE BOARD
GDNA is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
